Reducing our environmental impact

We strive to limit our environmental impact to the lowest possible level. This includes all aspects relevant to our sector, such as energy management, water, chemicals, waste and greenhouse gas emissions. We closely monitor our performance and impact at all of our manufacturing sites, applying the most stringent rules and regulations applicable in each country. All ST manufacturing sites are certified EMAS or ISO 14001.

Environment and the bottom line

Investing in the environment makes economic sense. At ST, we have calculated that every dollar we invested in "green" initiatives has resulted in a very quick payback usually in two-and-a-half years or less – making us a more efficient company and contributing to our bottom line.

Environmental policy

At ST, we are proud to be one of the first global industrial companies to have implemented a policy of environmental responsibility, starting in the early 1990s. In 1995, we published our first Environmental Decalogue, a set of 10 ambitious targets for reducing our impact on the environment, going far beyond legal requirements. This included measurable, time-defined goals, which we committed to publicly and shared with our employees, suppliers, customers and other partners.

Our Decalogue has since been extended to include health and safety targets, guiding us to continuously improve our environmental, health and safety performance. One of our key objectives is to reach carbon neutrality for our direct emissions. Our annual Corporate Responsibility Report lists our other objectives and gives concrete examples of our actions and performance.
